In the Middle Ages, sodanum, extracted from a plant, was a well-known sodium hydroxide-based remedy for headaches. The same beneficial effect is found in sodalite.
Around 2000 BC, a civilization in northern Peru used sodalite crystals in their rituals. Sodalite fragments and quartz fragments, which were small offerings, were found at the excavation site.
It was in the 19th century, during a visit to Canada's mining capital, that Princess Mary of Wales fell in love with sodalite and brought large quantities back to England to decorate her castle and popularize it in jewelry and watches.
It is cleaned with distilled water and recharged with a cluster of quartz or amethyst and moonlight.
This long-overlooked stone has a similar effect to lapis lazuli, but it is gentler and focuses on clarity and calm. It is a stone of awakening, encouraging greater openness to oneself and others.
