Yellow opal

Properties of Yellow Opal

Yellow opal belongs to the large opal family and is composed of hydrated silica with inclusions of various metals. It is a stone with a significant water content, representing approximately 20% of its composition. Its transparency ranges from translucent to opaque, and its luster can be vitreous, dull, or pearly.

The hardness of yellow opal ranges from 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Its yellow color, resulting from the presence of iron, classifies it as a "fire opal," a group that includes opals with reddish and yellowish hues.

The most important deposits of yellow opal are in Australia, the world's largest producer of opals. Other countries such as Mexico, the United States, Canada, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Brazil also produce outstanding specimens. Yellow opal
