History of larimar
Larimar is one of those stones that has been discovered recently. Officially, larimar was discovered just over thirty years ago, in 1974.
The first mining of the stone only began two years later. The stone's name comes from Miguel Méndez. The word larimar is composed of half of Méndez's daughter's name, Larissa, and the word "mar," which means sea in Spanish.
Larimar has been the subject of particular enthusiasm, especially in New Age circles, which believe there is a link between the stone and the legendary Atlantis. Today, larimar is used in jewelry to make bracelets, rings, necklaces, and pendants.
Besides its rarity, the particular and attractive color of larimar is the first factor that explains its success among lovers of precious stones.
