Jasper landscape properties

The large jasper family includes an exceptional stone called landscape jasper. The distinguishing feature of this stone is its veins or bands of various colors, generally due to sedimentary deposits or dendritic variations. This aspect of jasper gives it the appearance of a landscape, hence its name.

The composition of landscape jasper is the same as that of all jaspers: a very high silica content with the presence of quartz, chalcedony, and iron, which gives it a brown color. Other inclusions can give landscape jasper a different color, ranging from black to ivory, beige, blue, reddish, and brown. Landscape jasper has a trigonal crystal system, a density of 2.75, and a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.

The most notable extraction sites are scattered throughout the world, from Brazil to Egypt, from Madagascar to the United States and Uruguay.
