Leopard jasper
Properties of Leopard Jasper
Leopard jasper , also called "leopardite," shares all the chemical properties of jasper. It is composed primarily of silica, which makes up more than 95% of its composition. It is a polymorphic sedimentary rock with colors ranging from creamy white to orange. Its main characteristic is the pattern of spots reminiscent of a leopard's coat, which take on different colors depending on the inclusions of metals, crystals, or fossils present in the stone.
The crystal system of leopard jasper is trigonal, and its fracture is conchoidal. It has a white streak, its luster ranges from vitreous to greasy, and its density is 2.75. The hardness of leopard jasper is between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale.
The most important deposits are located in Brazil, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, and African countries such as Madagascar.

History of Leopard Jasper
The name "leopard jasper" is primarily a marketing term inspired by the stone's appearance, which resembles the spots on a leopard's coat. However, like other types of jasper, this stone has its own history and properties.
For many cultures, leopard jasper is a magical stone. Shamans considered it a link to animal spirits and spiritual totems. The stone's harmonious markings symbolize the connection between humans and the animal spirits of nature. In ancient myths, jasper, including leopard jasper, was associated with deities and objects of worship.
Today, leopard jasper is widely used in ornamentation and jewelry, creating unique pieces such as pendants and bracelets.
