The properties of fluorite

Fluorite, also known as fluorite, is a mineral composed primarily of calcium fluoride. It often contains traces of organic compounds and various metals such as iron, cerium, magnesium, yttrium, chlorine, silicon, etc. These trace metals determine the color of the stone, or at least the color of the colored areas within it. Fluorite can exhibit a wide range of colors, from colorless to blue, green, purple, pink, and more.

The chemical formula for fluorite is CaF2. It forms in low-temperature deposits or veins within layers of granite or metamorphic rocks. Fluorite belongs to the cubic crystal system. Its fracture is irregular to conchoidal. Its streak is white, and its luster is vitreous. Fluorite has a hardness of approximately 4 on the Mohs scale.

The most notable fluorite deposits are found in France, England, Morocco, Mongolia, and South Africa.
