Rose quartz
Properties of rose quartz
Rose quartz is one of those gemstones that has found great success among stone collectors and crystal healing practitioners. The color of the quartz is primarily due to the presence of metallic oxides, manganese, titanium, and micro-inclusions of dumortierite. Rose quartz is a transparent to opaque stone with a white, vitreous luster and a trigonal crystal system. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and a constant density of 2.65.
Rose quartz comes in a wide range of colors, from pale pink to deep pink. Peach or orange highlights may be present depending on the type and density of the metals and inclusions that make up the stone. The most popular rose quartz has the rare characteristic of having white lines that intersect in a star-like pattern with 6 to 12 points once it has been cut into a cabochon. This stone is called "star quartz."
The most outstanding deposits of rose quartz, which produce the highest quality stones, are found mainly in Brazil, more specifically in the Minais Gerais deposit, in the United States, in the State of Albany, in Tanzania and in Madagascar.
