Properties of broncite

Bronzite is a mineral belonging to the silicate family, distinguished from other stones like enstatite (also from the same family) by its high iron and magnesium content. From a scientific standpoint, it would be more accurate to refer to the alteration of enstatite when discussing broncytis.

The stone is characterized by a brown color and a luster that varies between pearly and vitreous. Bronzite has an orthorhombic crystal system, an irregular fracture, and a white or even gray streak. Its density ranges from 3.2 to 3.3. Its hardness is 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.

The most notable deposits are found mainly in Austria, Madagascar, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Burma.

History of Bronzite

Bronzite appears to have been known in the Greco-Roman world more commonly as enstatite, which is thought to derive from the Greek term "enstates," meaning "adversary." The name "bronze" likely stems from its distinctive bronze-like color.

The Romans believed in the medicinal and protective properties of bronzite. They used it to prevent physical and mental illnesses. This virtue of the stone also encompassed an esoteric dimension, as they used it as a protective amulet.

Today, bronzite is used and appreciated mainly in jewelry to make ornaments, bracelets or even pendants.
